BACKGROUND
WAVES CAN CHANGE STONE
The world is full of messages. Make sure yours means something to the people you are trying to reach. Strike a chord which resonates with your intended listener.
I am Catherine Spivey, the founder of Resonant Frequency. I have always enjoyed experiencing other cultures through their people, different generations, languages, music, film, art, modes of transportation, exploration of natural surroundings and local dishes. I have lived in the US, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Mexico, England, Spain and Switzerland and traveled extensively. I have experience with many educational systems and hold a bachelor’s degree in German from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s degree with honors in Film Studies from the University of Amsterdam, focus on immersion factors in virtual reality. I have experience translating both technical and cultural texts from German, Italian and Dutch into English and also editing and polishing a variety of both highly technical and general texts.
I am passionate about projects that connect different people and encourage them to identify their individual strengths and grow and learn by undertaking something together.
WHAT I'M ABOUT
finding ways to express, explain and translate concepts in order to motivate people to achieve new objectives. I enjoy finding clear ways to explain how things work or what something means. I refined this skill while working on definitions for PONS dictionaries and translating patents.
organizing and performing in cultural events in which music brings diverse people together. For example, I coordinate music for a palliative care organization and an outreach group by creating awareness, by finding events, performers and repertoire and by playing.
helping people who don’t fit prevalent educational patterns to learn and to accomplish their goals and thereby improve the robustness of the cultural landscape. I tutor a variety of ages and levels across a range of topics. It’s a fun way to keep learning myself and gain new perspectives.
combating social alienation. Many people experience unwanted isolation as a result of a variety of circumstances. I believe in fostering a sense of connection on each individual’s own terms without resorting to extroversion. This is not altruism. Sincere connection can stimulate growth and development and benefit everyone. I help organize outreach across generations and with individuals with non-standard social preferences.
